I saw this online when i was looking into the PA ToughMudder as a nice alternative to a half marathon. Its run by all former SF guys And started by a former green beret (Jason McCarthy) I ran the event on April 3rd. It wasnt bad, at first i thought it may not be exactly what i had in mind alot of prior service guys but i thought it would be toned down for the older guys i saw there (late 30's sorry guys haha) but it wasn't.
The idea is a group of people 30 or less in big cities around the US, throw on a ruck with 4 bricks, camelback and whatever other supplies you bring i.e. powerbars, gel shots (about 30 lbs), and you go for a run/physical challenge its at least 10 hours/15 miles all kinds of exercises sprints with this pack and a bunch of "coupons" (heavy s*** that the instructor finds along the path and says "sure pick that up and bring it with us") all over the city.
it works on brigning everyone together as a team like any military type exercise. Sign up if you guys are interested, i loved it and i'm signing up for another one in Delaware in early May. good livin'

Permalink Reply by Nick Pokora on May 1, 2011 at 6:14pm Brent, my friend and I just did the GORUCK in Boston May 1st @ 1a.m. and all I can say is holy sh*t. I have never felt this sore in my entire life. We had Jason from the cadre lead our team of about 23 guys and you couldn't have been more right when you said the sooner we come together the easier it is. Easier said than done however.
Had an absolute blast though...took our group some 13 hours, didnt get done until 2p.m. and some 20 mi later. Great group of guys and 1 girl! haha
I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a challenge and a chance to hang out with some cool dudes and attempt to see a nice city in the meantime. good livin'!
Permalink Reply by Nick Pokora on May 2, 2011 at 10:58am thanks man, its a great feeling having accomplished that..im sure you felt the same way.
I really wish I could do the Ascent but I'll still be in basic I believe and then to the schoolhouse shortly thereafter. definitely addicting though...who was your cadre?
Just got done with the one in Colorado Springs yesterday. 20 people, 22 miles, 14 hours. Class 056 had some good livin' for sure. Can't wait to do another one...just need to find the time and the means. Wasn't overly demanding, but sure left me feeling sore and the fun was like no other!
welcome to the family GORUCK.

Permalink Reply by Mike Hussle on September 2, 2011 at 3:56am Do it. I would kill to do one in DC. Seriously. And I wouldn't worry too much about injuries...we literally dragged a guy to the end, and I doubt it'll come to that for your wife.
I realize that's a terrible argument, but hey, I feel everyone on this forum has a pretty unique idea of "fun".
