So I'm new here and I'm training for TACP. I leave at the end of January for prep school but I seem to struggle on push-ups. I of course passed the PAST Test but barely. Everything else I do very well on. I really like to have a comfort zone well above just the basic's. I like to give my all.

I'm curren't about to download the TACP ETG but I don't have the full 10wk timeframe to do it so I'll do as much as I can.

Does anyone have some serious pointers on how to gain strength and increase my push-ups before the end of January?

Thank you very much I will get on that ASAP. Is doing them weighted (5lbs) a bad thing?
Like Justin said do them throughout the day. When you enter or leave a room is great! The best way to get better is to do them.
Thank you for the good advice, Monday is the start of "the feel good pain". I'm really going to get myself spun up as much as I can.
Like they said, just drop down and do them. I did it during commercial breaks, 20 each or something. You can do it whenever.

When you are doing them, make sure the form is perfect. Shoot for your palms barely popping off the ground, that way they can't say you arent coming up enough.
Thanks. I started today, just dropping and doing them during breaks at work. Today was a busy day so I didn't get to do much but I will definitely get more done in the coming days. I'm also going to track it so I can do more.

I'll make sure I do perfect form also. I had one of the instructors school me about 4 months ago about proper form. It's something I would never forget.
lol...they have a way of doing that
Yeah they do, I had just came back from a deployment and I thought I could do about 70 reps in a minute. I went to the prep school and they let me PAST with the guys on their first day. Man I got down and started pushing and the instructor just looked at me. After like 3 he was like get up. He showed me proper form and I couldn't get past 35.

Haha, all the TACP hopefuls looking on, the embarrassment of looking like an idiot. I thought I knew it all. It's better I learned that lesson before I went in officially. I'm a changed man because of it.
yeah proper form is key- learn it now or all your efforts will be wasted in the end.
So I did some research on here and picked out a couple pushup things to do during the day before doing the TACP ETG at night when I get off work. I'm goin to go with the Grease and Groove, Pyramids and Timed Intervals.

Now my question is, would it be better to do each one weekly, so for example, doing G&G for one week, then the next week do pyramids, then timed and start over until I leave or would it benefit me more to do each one per week (Mon - G&G, Weds - Pyramids, Fri - Timed)?

Also I don't want to over do it and burn myself out so I'm guessing I should keep it on mondays, wednesdays and fridays instead of trying to do it everyday.

Thanks

Ok thank you. I have been fine tuning the workout  and I think I got it just right. If anyone has anymore suggestions, I'd love to heard them.
